5.5 years old!

Today Tyler turns 5.5 years old!!!  I know I say this all the time but how did that happen?!  Sometimes the days/nights can be long but the years are so fast.  The Ranger is home this week and Tyler has been having a blast!

Our big 5.5 year old boy!

My favorite Tyler-ism lately:

*Tyler sits down next to me and sighs*  "Mom, are you happier than a hog running from an ice chest?"

HA!  What?!  Where does he come up with this stuff?!  I love it!

Low key weekend

We had a pretty uneventful weekend around our house....that's nice sometimes!  Saturday morning we ventured to Touch A Truck and Tyler wasn't having it.  Very strange for him but it was hot and looking back I don't think he felt his very best.  He posed next to a dirt bike and that's all he wanted to see!  Strange.

Tyler was happy with his balloon and made sure to tell mom and I "this looks like a pee pee!  You see it?!"  Oh golly.......

We ran a few errands and Tyler went from camping out in the buggy to jumping like a frog.  It was wild.  He was out of control!

Sunday morning would explain Tyler's uninterested and odd behavior on Saturday.  Poor guy's eye was almost swollen shut and he was complaining of a throat ache.  I luckily have an amazing service through my insurance that has home dr visits!  Soooo wonderful.
My poor little man was diagnosed with strep throat and a bad stye on his eye.  We're on antibiotics, eye drops and a day off of school as a precaution.  He wasn't running a fever so that's good.  New school germs are sucky!!

Tyler sat on the driveway and waited for Rolf to get home for what seemed like hours.  It was cute and kind of sad at the same time.  He missed Dada so much!  (he was dove hunting this weekend)

I had a baby shower at 2 and then Tyler was feeling well enough so we stopped by the German Club Ocktoberfest about 4:30.  They had a band from Germany and it was a lot of fun!  Here we are singing along.  (stole these pics from Anja!)

Tyler looks like he's singing but we all know he's really just acting 5 and sticking his tongue out.
...back to Monday....

Conventions

Tyler's latest activity of choice is making conventions.  (aka inventions)  ha!  His conventions usually consist of some type of "trailer" pulled behind either a car or stroller.  Bungee cords are a must for keeping his conventions together.

Creek convention.

Home convention....he wanted me to pull him in the basket behind the stroller that was connected by a bungee cord.

After the bungee cord nearly took his eye out I convinced him that wasn't the best idea and he settled for pushing his convention around the house.  ha!

Someone let Tyler use his Dollar Tree gift card on a lock.  Everything is locked up these days!  Our cabinets.....

Rolf's bbq pit (locked to the fence).  What was I thinking?!  hehe.  (I did get smart and kept the extra key)

After not loving his build a bear "Coco" since March, Tyler finally took a liking to ol' Coco again and let him get his clothes back on.  Coco was banned to the creek house without any clothes because I quote, "Mom, he bit Pluto and he isn't a nice friend."  Tyler apparently held a grudge since March!  wow!  I never knew stuffed animals could be so naughty toward each other.  ;-p

Casting

Tyler is really into practicing casting a fishing pole.  He found an old Zebco reel and fishing pole in our downstairs apartment and was in hog heaven because he could cast it all by himself without getting a bird's nest.  (the open faced, whatever they're called, reels are too hard for him at this age so he's usually waiting for Daddy or Poppy to help...not anymore!)  Saturday he spent the majority of the day on our pier casting over and over.

I grabbed my camera a little too late on Saturday afternoon because I wasn't able to capture Poppy and Tyler while they were sitting on the pier fishing like two old men.  It was so, so cute.

Cast after cast!

Rolf used to practice throwing a cast net as a little boy so Tyler practicing his casting skills really cracks me up.

5 year olds.....

Tyler did end up catching two hard heads.  He was fired up!

School Spirit

Yesterday Tyler came home VERY excited about his new spirit shirt.  "Mom, we have to wear our shirts tomorrow!"  I am really enjoying all of the excitement and firsts that come along with kindergarten.  Here is my boy in his spirit shirt this morning.  :)

Tyler got new boots last night!  JD + Camo = Heaven!  Size 1...how?!
Happy Friday!

Adventures in Kindergarten

Kindergarten is turning out to be quite entertaining in our house and I'm really loving it!  Here are some funnies that I don't want to forget!

Last Wednesday I picked Tyler up from daycare and on the way home he told me "Mom, I had breakfast at school today!"  I was very confused since he ate at home before we left and (up to that point) refused to eat the breakfast that's included in our price at daycare.  The conversation went like this:
    • "Mom, today I got in this line and oh my gosh they had a lot of breakfast stuff.  It was a huge area of anything you wanted.  I got chocolate milk, a biscuit and orange juice!  Mom, have you ever had chocolate milk?  It's SO good.  It tastes so chocolately!"  (he's never had chocolate milk)
    • Tyler, where did you have breakfast?
    • Mom, at Gleason.  You know that door that leads out to the playground?  They have a whole area set up right there for breakfast.  It was so good.
    • Tyler, how did you pay for your breakfast?
    • Oh Mom, they just do.
    • Who is they?
    • Mom, the chocolate milk was so good.
    • *insert me laughing hysterically picturing Tyler feeling like he had died and gone to heaven in the cafeteria of chocolate goodness*
    • Ok, so you had breakfast at school but how did you pay for it?
    • I got in line.  Mom, they had a cash register and everything!
    • Ok, I know that but how did YOU pay for YOUR breakfast?!
    • Oh, well they didn't know the name of the boy in front of me but they knew my name and said "you're good, go ahead."
    • Me dropping the subject....Wow, that sounds like a great morning!
    • Oh Mom, it was!
So, that's the story of how Tyler somehow ended up in the cafeteria for breakfast one morning!  I got to re-live the whole story when Rolf got home.  Hilarious!

I called the school the next day to see how I could pay for the meal and they set me up online (I had a balance of $1).  The front desk lady laughed and laughed when I told her the story.  We are still laughing in our house!  Tyler hasn't ventured to the breakfast line again since I gave him strict instructions to NOT go there until I put money in his account.  Adventures in Kindergarten!!

A couple other funnies:
  • We had our first homework assignment last night.  One of our site words is "run" so I was using the word in a sentence for Tyler.
    • K to T hoping he would fill in the missing word:  ____ ____ as fast as you can
    • Tyler without skipping a beat: can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!
    • K to T: (laughing hysterically) NO!  you're supposed to say "run"
  • Mom, I wish I could change my name.  Andrew is such a cool name.  Y'all can call me Tyler at home and I'll be Andrew at school.
I'll end the post with a little concert Tyler asked me to record "for D"

Friday Phone Dump

TGIF!! I haven't uploaded random phone pictures in awhile so we're going way back for some of these!

Getting ready for the tooth fairy.  Tooth under the pillow!

The fairy brought 3 dollars and this little man was excited!  Tyler is saving up for a new Lego set.

Adventures in babysitting my parent's 4 wiener dogs!  This was the last leg of a two week trip and those pups were STARVING for attention!

Got cheeseballs?!

 Big puzzle from Auntie!

Sometimes I laugh hysterically at the imaginative play I see going on in our living room.  Pirate ship, couch and naked Barbie and Ken.  Hmmmm.  HA!

Not sure....  (probably stoked that I let him have a whole Sprite.  ha!)

Fishin' with Pop.

Have a great weekend!

Back to School Funnies

I don't want to speak too soon but we seem to be getting into somewhat of a new routine at school.  Tyler was moved to a new kinder class starting today (the existing ones were over state limit) but he seems to be excited so we're taking it in stride!  Today was also the first day I dropped him off at his new before care with no tears!  (Last week's drop-offs were completely heartbreaking.)

With a new school year comes some Tyler funnies that I knew I wanted to document so I didn't forget!

The first day of school I walked into the daycare to pick Tyler up and balls were flying, kids running everywhere, kids having a great time being wild.  I couldn't find Tyler.  I kept looking and still didn't see him.  Lo and behold I see him in the far corner of the gym surrounded by girls who were teaching him how to rainbow loom.  It.was.awesome.  Tyler has been obsessed with rainbow looming since his gal pal Mikayla showed him the outcome.  He thinks he can do it but he's just not ready..ha!  I refused to buy him a loom so it made the rainbow loom lesson at daycare even funnier.  I expected to see him being wild with the boys but nope...he was rainbow looming with the girls!  I loved it.  I walked over and they were all asking him "Tyler what color do you like, Tyler do you want a bracelet, Tyler I'll make you a ring, Tyler Tyler Tyler!"  Too cute!

I asked the little girls what grades they were in and most were 1st and 2nd.  They (in very flirty little girl voices) said, "ohhhh my we thought he was in 2nd grade."  *bats eye lashes*  SO funny!!

Later that night I was telling Rolf about the rainbow loom experience and he asks Tyler "do you already have a lot of girlfriends?"  Tyler replies "OH YEAH!"  Oh boy.......

Some other random funnies from the first week:
  • When are we gonna get homework?  Can I ask Ms. McKinney if she has some homework for me to do tonight?  (please no!)
  • Mom, don't worry about packing me a lunch tomorrow....I wanna go through that the lunch line!  (barf)
  • Today a girl said I was cute.  Man...sigh...*slaps his knee*...those young girls.
  • Mom, today I cried 3 times.  Yep, I did.  (so matter of fact)
  • Today I was runnin' from those girls on the playground.  Man...sigh.  Me to T: Why don't you just play with them like your other friends that are girls?  Sigh...Mom, you can't trust those girls at my school.
Out of the mouths of babes!

A few selfies before swim last night.

Can I admit that I have to take selfies with my sunglasses on because that's the only way to disguise that I'm really looking at the camera button?  I'm definitely not of the selfie generation.  lol
