Meet Lucy!

Last week something completely unexpected (in a good way!) happened in our family!  It all started with this text Thursday morning......

Our friends own a moving company and a sweet lab showed up to their warehouse.

They searched for her owners and took her to the vet to check for a microchip with no luck.

Blake sent the above text to Rolf and I Thursday morning and by Thursday night we were doing this.....

We've been considering getting another lab since we had to put Bailey to sleep 5 years ago.  Tyler has begged us for a big dog for yearS but my sanity couldn't take a puppy.

We've wanted a little bit of an older dog and the vet estimates Lucy to be about 3 years old.

I just don't think this could've fallen into our laps any easier or more perfect.

So, we have a new family member and Tyler is THRILLED!!

I think it's safe to say we're all pretty smitten with her!

Tyler skipped out on a trip to the deer lease to stay home with his new pup.  Rolf's words to me Friday morning "she'll be fine outside, we kept Bailey outside for her whole life."

HAHAHA!!
Lucy does stay outside during the day but at night there are no promises that's where she'll be.  Hehe.

Backburner

The ol' blog fell to the back burner the last few weeks because just after my last post, life took an unexpected turn and we've been chasing our tails trying to keep up!!

On September 24th, my mother-in-law unexpectedly passed away.  Although she had been struggling physically and mentally since her stroke just over 2 years ago, she wasn't ill and her passing was a shock.  Admittedly, the last 2 years have been some of the hardest times Rolf and I have walked together as a couple and supporting him while he cares for Gayle and trying to keep our own house running (while we both work full time!!) has been insane.

We never did find a successful way to communicate with Gayle after her stroke and that added to the stress and sadness over the situation.  While her passing is a loss, we are at peace knowing that she is no longer trapped inside her broken body and she is free!  Gayle passed on a Monday and that Friday we had the most beautiful celebration of her life at our church. The music, the message, Rolf sharing his memories of Gayle, family and friends gathering around to support us- it was all just so wonderful in a time of sadness.

Perhaps the hardest part of losing Gayle was having to share the news with her mother, our Grommy.  Gayle is her only child and our Grommy is strong at 98 but the loss is unimaginable for any parent.  I truly believe in my heart that God kept Grommy here because he knew Gayle would need her mother after the stroke.  The week after the funeral, Rolf and I made the decision to move Grommy to a new, smaller personal care home to give her a fresh start.  We are confident in our decision to move her but it was hard to leave our old place that loved both of the ladies so much.  Here is Grommy in her new room.

As if those two situations alone aren't enough, both of my kids decided to puke off and on for a couple weeks, Tyler contracted strep throat twice in 3 weeks, we've had some issues at school, we still have those full time jobs and about a million other things fell on us at the same time.  Such is life, right?!  We are trying to keep a positive attitude and rely on our faith daily!!

Despite the stress, the kids keep us going!
Tyler is super proud of his new deer mount in his bedroom!

Hailey was loving the tiny carousel at a carnival last weekend.
I hope to be back to blogging more regularly soon.  I love looking back on this little space!
