Western Day
Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Last Friday was Western Day at Tyler's school. They had a little performance for each grade level. I thought Tyler would be super excited for this event since he loves anything country but NOPE!!! He was not excited and told me all morning that "he just knew he was going to throw up. his stomach was telling him he would and he did NOT want to perform during western day. Mom, I'm just nervous." Oh geez!!
He looked precious in his little outfit but of course refused to keep his shirt tucked in because "Mom, I'm just going to throw up." We had quite the mother/child argument that morning complete with me raising my voice and telling him "it's supposed to be FUN!" I felt bad afterwards but sheesh!!
Anyways, Mrs. Marshall is such a sweet teacher and she let Tyler glue himself to her instead of standing at his place in the line. See below.....
He finally let go of her hand and eventually participated (in his own way!). I even got a half smile!
They asked the parents to participate for the last two songs and it was super fun! I'm so thankful his school does little events like this every now and then. I admire the teachers and staff SO much, I couldn't do it!
Afterwards he told me "Mom, that wasn't bad at all and I didn't throw up!" Whew!
A couple videos of our shy school boy....

14 Week Bumpdate
Monday, November 24, 2014
How far along: 14 weeks, 2 days
How big is baby: Lemon
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Holy appetite.... *insert scared face* I was hoping my appetite would pick up eventually but unlike last time where my appetite slowly came back, this week my appetite literally increased overnight. I seem to be eating like I've joined the football team and I'm a little terrified. ha! I've been trying to eat healthy but the quantity of food is absolutely amazing (and scary)! The biggest change this week was that I tried coffee!! This is huge! I drink mostly decaf coffee but I just love the taste and the warmth, especially this time of year. I was cautious the first couple of days and even skipped a day to give my stomach a rest but all seems okay, SO glad!! I've really been into cold salads and fruit this week (as well as anything else I can get my hands on..ha!). Sweets still aren't a must-have but I'll eat cake if it's there.
Symptoms: Besides the insatiable hunger only seen by a high school football player, my boobs are still incredibly sore and I'm starting to have sciatic nerve/hip pain. The hip pain didn't come until much later with Tyler so I'm a little nervous about that development. It's okay though, I can deal with both of those SO much better than nausea! I'm slowly lowering my dose of Zofran but am scared to go cold turkey. I still have some waves of nausea most days but it totally beats the 24/7 sickies!
Sleep: My weekly email updates tell me that trips to the bathroom should be lessening....that is so not the case in the middle of the night! Oh well, it beats waking up nauseous!
Gender: Last week I reported that the dr knows the gender of our baby! Rolf really doesn't want to find out from the blood test so we'll wait for our 20 week ultrasound. I started to get worked up until I realized our appointment will be over Christmas break so we'll get to take Tyler with us. I think it will be so special going as a family that it's worth the wait!
Movement: I haven't felt any movement yet but I'm curious to see if I'll know what's going on or think it's just gas bubbles like last time.
Labor signs: Way too early!
The belly: Still not there but I'm still having some bloating at night that you could mistake for a baby bump.
Belly button- in or out: in
Best moment this week: The look on Rolf's face when I asked him to get me a second helping of dinner at a party last night. This has never happened before.......pregnant or not. *insert scared faces from both of us*
What I miss: Most of the week I was still missing my energy level but Saturday I had a burst of energy and put up the majority of our Christmas decorations. Huge task that requires a lot of energy!
What I am looking forward to: Yesterday we were at a birthday party and there were a ton of babies there. I can't wait until we have a baby in our family again!
Milestones: 2nd trimester here we ARE!!
What I'm loving: Having my appetite back!!
Worries: This week I was worried about the severity of my appetite. I know that sounds strange after complaining about no appetite for months but literally 10 minutes after consuming a nice sized portion I am starving like I've never eaten. I've never felt this kind of insatiable hunger in my life, even pregnant with Tyler. I think I've got a parasite baby.
What's different this time: Zits...holy smokes the zits!! Also different this time is the insane hunger and sore boobs.
Final thoughts: I was so, so happy to see my daily pregnancy app announce that we've entered the 2nd trimester! I hope it's as nice as it was with Tyler!
Big Brother Tyler: Kirsten gave me a week-by-week book that shows the actual size of the baby to read with Tyler. It's SO neat. I showed him how big the baby is now and he immediately flipped to the last page and said "okay, so when it gets that big it'll be out." I answered yes and he gave me a blank stare. ha! I'm anticipating many conversations in our future! I'm really enjoying having an "older" child while being pregnant, it's fun to get his opinion and reactions.
One night last week we were reading in bed and Tyler put his hand on my stomach. He got SO excited and said, "I can feel the baby!" I didn't want to tell him it was just me breathing or my food digesting because he was so excited. Wait until he really feels the baby!
14 week bump pictures with my favorite picture partner! Maybe a little something?!
Rolf snapped this picture of me while I was eating my 3rd breakfast in the car over the weekend. This is the face of a seriously hungry preggo. lol!
Hello bloat.......
Until next week!
Breakfast in Kindergarten
Thursday, November 20, 2014
I've already written about one school breakfast adventure but Tyler surprised us with another one! This kid keeps us laughing!
I picked him up from daycare and he said, "this morning when I got to school I was feeling hungry so I told Ms. Marshall. (even though he already ate at home) She said to go get some breakfast. She gave me my number this time! So, I got a biscuit and orange juice. Then I washed my hands."
I was pretty impressed at this point because he washed his hands AND remembered to ask how he pays for his meal!

When we got home Tyler handed me the moist towelette they give them to wash their hands. He informed me that he didn't use them because he "wanted to save them for you and dad." um ok. I didn't say or think anything else about it.
Fast forward an hour or two. We're eating dinner and Tyler passes out the towelette he saved for us. Rolf asks him why he didn't use it and he said he went to the bathroom to wash his hands instead. I told him that maybe next time he should just use the towels so nobody takes his food that he set down at the breakfast table.
Tyler looks at me serious as ever and says "no mom, I took my food into the restroom with me!"
*Katie passes out*
I didn't ask anymore questions or details for fear of gagging. BOYS!!! At least he washed his hands?
....and because no post is complete without a picture of our boy, here Tyler is wearing his new warm Ninja Turtle jammies on a cold night! He is very proud of them. (and the rusty square nail that Rolf brought back from New Mexico. Doesn't every kid have an antique square rusty nail in their toy box?!)
Pop-A-Wheelie
Tuesday, November 18, 2014
This post contains approximately 30 pictures of Tyler showing me how he "pops a big ol' wheelie on my bike!" MUCH to my discouragement, it was inevitable that the popping wheelie days would come. *sigh* Rolf gladly shows off his skills and Tyler is happy to mimic. Thankfully he only gets his tire about an inch or two off the ground but I know bigger wheelie days are coming.
My cute boy on his bike!
Serious concentration...
Tongue out helps!
You know how hard it is to capture that millisecond his tire is off the ground?! HA!!
Rinse and repeat.....
Concentration mouth- check!
This would be the millisecond after he came down from his wheelie, dangit!!
"Mom, someday I'll get my wheel this high!"
Not sure...ha!
Molly was eating dead worms (I know, gross) in the line of fire!
You'll have to look closely but I caught an actual wheelie pop! T is so proud of this picture. lol!
The next night Tyler attempted a wheelie in the dark on our neighbor's driveway and totally whipped out. In true Tyler fashion he jumped right up and said "that was awesome, I'm fine!" Let's hope all wipe outs end that way. :-/
13 Week Bumpdate
Monday, November 17, 2014
How far along: 13 weeks, 2 days
How big is baby: Peach (about 3 inches long)
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: This week cold fruit (oranges and grapes) have tasted really good. I'm also into anything blueberry. Mom has been making me some blueberry bread and I also have a blueberry bagel every morning. I'm still not eating a whole lot of meat but I did have a few bites of chicken twice this week (and didn't have to spit them out, score!!) My one exception to "not eating a lot of meat" is the turkey and swiss Antone sandwich from the Kroger ready to eat section. I bought one on Sunday and ate the entire thing in one sitting (I swear that's the most I've eaten in one sitting in months!) Monday I decided nothing could beat the lunch I had the day before so I drove myself to Kroger and bought 2 of the exact same sandwiches. I didn't eat both in the same day but they sure were good this week! After what feels like months of starving, I'm so glad to feel hungry again!
Symptoms: I am SO glad to report that this week brought more good days than bad in the nausea department!! There were still a handful of nights that I felt nauseous and one morning I ate an Eggo Waffle that my stomach hated for the rest of the day (literally, all day....come on!) but overall I can say this week has been the best yet. I'm so thankful and hoping we continue on this pattern! I'm still taking my Zofran twice a day along with zantac three times a day but I hope to cut those doses in the next few weeks. I can tell I still need them right now. I don't feel like my energy has picked up at all this week but hopefully that will come. I'm normally a patient person but clearly not during the 1st trimester!
Sleep: Rolf was out of town most of the week so I found myself going to bed shortly after Tyler (read: early). It was glorious!
Gender: Not sure yet but I have a really strong desire to find out from the genetic testing. We'll see how Rolf feels. We don't have any results back yet. UPDATE: the dr's office called Friday afternoon with the results but I had to tell her that we didn't want to know yet because it was just me on the phone and I couldn't find out without Rolf. I'm dying to know now though!!
Movement: None
Labor signs: Way too early!
The belly: Same story different week, ha! I do feel like my waist is thickening a bit and at night I still have a food baby/bloat but I'm anxious for the fun bump to appear!
Belly button- in or out: in
Best moment this week: Having more good days than bad!! I really can't say that enough, it's such a relief!!
What I miss: I'm still missing my energy level. I hope it picks up in time for the holidays!
What I am looking forward to: My next Houston's veggie burger! I know that sounds completely ridiculous...ha!
Milestones: Closer to the 2nd trimester baby!!
What I'm loving: Feeling some relief most days!
Worries: I'm a little nervous about getting the genetic test back but all we can do is pray everything is okay. UPDATE: the dr's office called me Friday afternoon and said the tests all came back "low risk and within normal range." Whew. Very thankful!
What's different this time: Exhaustion and zits. I also feel like my stomach was bigger last time around and I remember buying my first pair of maternity shorts (and starting to wear them) at 13 weeks. Maybe pants are lower these days but right now I'm still okay wearing (and buttoning) my current pants.
Final thoughts: I need to do a serious house purge once my energy picks up.
Big Brother Tyler: Tyler wore his first big brother shirt this week! We found the shirt at Carter's last weekend and he was so excited to wear it. It was really sweet. I asked him that night if anyone noticed his shirt and he said "Yes, Ms. Marshall did and she announced it to the whole class!" He was smiling ear to ear then touched my belly and asked "when is that baby gonna be here?" ha!
Week 13 bump pictures. Do we see anything?! Maybe a little?
I had a super fun visitor during my pictures this week. He was so curious. "Where is that baby?!"
This picture was from last Thursday morning during our last "Nurse Valerie" day. My mom has been such a huge help in the mornings! Last week I decided that I'm feeling fine enough to tackle the mornings by myself so I'm reserving her services for after the baby comes...hehe. Thanks so much Mom!
This is a delayed Halloween picture that I couldn't post a few weeks ago since we hadn't announced yet. Here I am trick or treating with my water, oyster crackers and hoping not to gag. I hung in there pretty good but it was interesting....
12 Week Bumpdate
Friday, November 14, 2014
This bumpdate should catch us up to real time! My goal is to post a new bumpdate every Monday. :)
Written 11/10/14
How far along: 12 weeks, 2 days
How big is baby: Large plum (2.5 inches)
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: The beginning of the week didn't bring a whole lot of appetite or cravings but by Wednesday I had my first true hunger pain (!!!!) and requested a veggie burger from Houston's. Oh my gosh, it was SO good and the best thing I've eaten in monthS! Too bad the darn thing cost $17! I can feel my appetite picking up a bit more the last few days and I'm THRILLED! My sweet tooth still hasn't found its way back to me yet which is just so, so strange. I will eat something sweet but I absolutely do not have to have it and sometimes it makes me feel sick.
Symptoms: Early in the 12th week I was still feeling pretty crummy from the events over the weekend but something clicked on Wednesday and I can confidently say "I'm doing ok!" There were a couple nights where I was still pretty nauseous after eating something that didn't agree but overall I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I'm still feeling pretty tired but am having more bursts of energy, yay!
Sleep: Sleep has been better this week compared to last, thank goodness. I'm only waking up once or twice.
Gender: We did our genetic testing at the dr this week and they asked if we wanted to know the gender. Ahhh! I can't decide if we want to find out that way or wait for the "big" ultrasound. It's so tempting but we'll see. Rolf told the nurse to put the gender in an envelope and we'll decide later if we want to pick it up/open it. The results of all tests (gender included) should be back within 10 days or so.
Movement: None
Labor signs: Way too early!
The belly: Still not there but of course I'm still taking bump shots. ha! Most nights I have what I call a food baby but by morning it's totally gone.
Belly button- in or out: in
Best moment this week: 12 week appointment and ultrasound! Dr. White said the baby looked great and everything was growing as it should be, we are so thankful. I just loved seeing that sweet baby on the ultrasound! Long legs and all! The ER dr expressed some concerns about a blood clot around the placenta but Dr. White said it's nothing to be concerned about and it's common.
What I miss: Energy. I know an energy boost will come (well, it did last time so hopefully history repeats itself) but my stamina is just not there yet. In fact, this morning I was so dang winded from just walking up the stairs at work. Really?!
What I am looking forward to: Hopefully continuing to feel better and doing more things around the house.
Milestones: 1st trimester scan and appointment.
What I'm loving: Finally letting the cat out of the bag and telling more people about the baby! That is such a hard secret to keep!
Worries: This feels silly but it's a true worry. I hope the break in nausea isn't just that...a break. I would love for this to be the end of the 1st trimester sickies but we'll see!
What's different this time: I don't remember my energy being this low last time but I also didn't have a 5 year old! Not liking sweets is totally weird and different this time. Last time I was a regular visitor of the Little Debbie aisle at the grocery store....so far this time I can't even stand to look that direction!
Final thoughts: We are so close to the 2nd trimester!! I will not be sad to wave bye to the 1st!
Big Brother Tyler: The sweetest moment this week was when Tyler stopped, patted my stomach and said "is the baby really in there?!" *melt my heart!*
Now for the ridiculous bump no bump shots, ha!
